The Union Government recently announced the New Education Policy of 2020. This is framed after 34 years which replaced Old Education made in 1986. The policy aims at creating an educational system that is futuristic, practical, technological advance and reach all groups that will transform India and help in making India a Global Knowledge Superpower.The draft of this new Education policy was submitted by former ISRO chief K. Kasturirangan in December 2018 which later after many rounds of discussion and changes was finally framed and drafted as new Education Policy 2020.
Key Highlights of new National Education Policy 2020:
? The NEP 2020 aims to ensure universal access to school education at all levels- preschool to secondary.
? This new curriculum focuses on the holistic development of children by providing them with the necessary skills, curriculum that is practical and emphasis on critical thinking and experiential learning.
? Students can choose subjects of their choice and opt for vocational courses from 6 grade which will include internship.
? Local language will be used as a medium of instruction will grade 5 No language will be made compulsory for students and options will be given for choosing foreign languages as well as Sanskrit at school and high education level.
? All students will take school examinations in Grades 3, 5, and 8. Board exams for Grades 10 and 12 will be continued, but redesigned to avoid rote learning and focus on grades. A new National Assessment Centre, PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), will be set up as a standard-setting body.
? The policy also puts emphasis on providing an equal education foundation for specially abled students by providing suitable training centres and resources to support them.
? The approach at Higher Education level presents expansive based, multi-disciplinary, all encompassing undergrad training with adaptable educational programs, innovative mixes of subjects, combination of professional training .
? UG Education can be of 3 or 4 years with numerous exit alternatives and proper accreditation inside this period.
? An Academic Bank of Credit is to be built up for carefully putting away scholastic credits earned from various foundations so that these can be moved and checked towards a definite degree earned.
? Multidisciplinary Education and Research Universities (MERUs), at standard with IITs, IIMs, to be set up as models of best multidisciplinary training of worldwide principles in the nation.
? The National Research Foundation will be made as a pinnacle body for encouraging a solid exploration culture and building research limit across advanced education.
? Advanced education Commission of India (HECI) will be set up as a solitary all-encompassing umbrella body for whole advanced education, barring clinical and legitimate education.HECI will work through anonymous intercession through innovation and will have forces to punish advanced education organizations for not adjusting to standards and norms.
? The National Scholarship Portal will be extended to help, cultivate, and track the advancement of understudies getting scholarships.Private HEIs will be urged to offer bigger quantities of free ships and grants to their students.

? NEP suggests setting an Indian Institute of Translation and Interpretation (IITI), National Institute (or Institutes) for Pali, Persian and Prakrit, reinforcing of Sanskrit and all language offices in HEIs, and use primary language/nearby language as a mode of guidance in more HEI programs.
